Machine Head in Auckland

Machine Head in Auckland

Recently banned by Disney, the world’s best metal Band bring The Blackening tour to New Zealand

With nearly nine years of non-stop worldwide touring behind them, Machine Head are touted by many as “the best live band in metal”; and their sixth album The Blackening the band’s most savage, potent, complex and unrelenting statement yet. But while firing the imaginations and raising the adrenaline levels of their worldwide audience, Machine Head have faced censorship from unexpected quarters. Indeed, with lyrics that refuse to tread lightly when it comes to politics, war and organized religion, Machine Head proved too much for Walt Disney Properties in early September. Scheduled to open their tour at the Anaheim House of Blues (on Disneyland-owned grounds), a forced-cancellation at the eleventh hour by the Disney subsidiary cited “violent imagery, undesirable fans and inflammatory lyrics” as the reasons for Machine Head’s unsuitability to perform.

Well, naturally. The Blackening is Machine Head’s return to the socially-conscious narrative so prevalent throughout their earlier albums like 1994’s groundbreaking debut Burn My Eyes, focusing heavily on issues that touch one and all. “The nature of the times during the writing of this album led to a very dismal atmosphere throughout… this is far and away the darkest material that we’ve ever written,” states vocalist/guitarist Robb Flynn.

Still, if Mickey Mouse doesn’t approve, Machine Head are being lauded in other quarters. The Blackening has already been hailed a landmark metal album, taking out top honours at the recent Kerrang awards ahead of My Chemical Romance and Fall Out Boy; and the live shows in support of The Blackening have been hailed as the group’s finest yet.

Don’t miss this chance to see the band who are redefining metal for the 21st century.
