National demand outstrips Big Day Out ticket supplies

Tuesday 16th October, 2007 5:16PM
Press release:
Grey Lynn, 6pm – Tickets to the 2008 Big Day Out went on sale on Friday and unprecedented early demand saw many outlets sell out by lunchtime.

The Big Day Out promoter Campbell Smith said ticket sales were running at the fastest rate ever.

“It might be fuelled by the fact that we sold out just after Christmas this year for the 07 event and people don’t want to miss out again, or the news leaking over the Tasman that Sydney and Gold Coast Big Day Outs sold out in a day earlier this week, but we’ve never seen almost half the available tickets to the Auckland show sold on the first day like we have today.”

The Big Day Out line-up for January 2008 includes some major draws, notably the return to the stage of American political rockers, Rage Against The Machine.

Smith said that his staff is working to restock stores over the weekend but that tickets were still available online 24/7 from outlets including ticketek.co.nz and bigdayout.com

“God knows we don’t want more tears around the country this weekend. If you think you might miss out, please jump online and get yourself a ticket,” he instructed all New Zealanders.
