Rhythm and Vines Real Groovy showcase

Rhythm and Vines Real Groovy showcase

Saturday 24th November, 2007 12:00PM

Mo’s come off at Rhythm & Vines Real Groovy showcase!

Rhythm & Vines, the first festival on Earth to ring in the New Year, will give Auckland a free sample of its eclectic music lineup Friday 30th November. The mini-concert takes place throughout the day at Real Groovy record store in Queen Street.

And facial hair will fly! Karrel Chabera, bass guitar player from The Checks, is one of the guys who will be shaving off his month-old moustache at the R&V showcase, as part of “Movember” events.

Movember (the month formerly known as November) is a charity event held during November each year.

At the start of Movember guys register with a clean shaven face. The Movember participants known as Mo Bros then have the remainder of the month to grow their moustache and along the way raise money and awareness about male health issues. Every year in New Zealand 2,656 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer and about 600 die of the disease, making prostate cancer the second largest cause of male cancer deaths, after lung cancer.

The Checks are back in the country after a whirlwind Aussie tour supporting Muse. Their album Hunting Whales, with the massive single “What You Heard,” is powering up the charts. This chance to see them play live in-store is not to be missed.

12 noon… DJ-percussion duo BrazilBeat Sound System kick things off with some drumming mayhem and tracks from their just launched debut album Nova.

2pm … French ex-pat Cyril Orson keeps the vibe in the right place with deep, melodic techno and electro styles, sure to include original tracks from his locally based label Bootik.

4pm… The audience is in for a treat with the gaudy, lustful antics of Charlie Ash, one of the hottest up-and-coming bands in NZ today.

6pm… The Checks will rock it loud and proud. Be there for this memorable experience.

1,000 Rhythm & Vines Harvest tickets will be for sale all day November 30th in-store at Real Groovy at a $10 discount.

Rhythm & Vines, held over New Year’s Eve in Gisborne, is celebrating its 5th anniversary. The 24-hour event takes place at Waiohika Estate, an operating vineyard with stunning natural outdoor amphitheatre, overlooking the Poverty Bay flats and Young Nick’s Head. Last year 15,000 attended Rhythm & Vines.
