Tuesday 29th April, 2008 12:00PM

New York band The Bravery are coming to NZ for the very first time to play two shows in June

AUCKLAND, KINGS ARMS > FRIDAY JUNE 13th
WELLINGTON, SFBH > SATURDAY JUNE 14th

Full Press release:
The Bravery exploded out of New York in 2005. Formed by singer and songwriter Sam Endicott with college friend John Conway (keys) the all-guns-blazing 5 piece quickly scored themselves a record deal with Island/Universal and their eponymous debut album spawned two international hit singles. An Honest Mistake remains a classic single (also nominated for an MTV award) and The Bravery set themselves to take their party around the world.

The Bravery received huge attention especially in the UK and States around these debut releases. Alongside an extremely vibrant crop of new bands (Franz Ferdinand, The Killers, The Rapture, Arctic Monkeys) indie rock bands were suddenly getting the dance floor moving again and playing with a smile in their songs. The Bravery, with their infectious blend of new wave, electroclash and huge shuddering pop melodies were blazing a euphoric trail wherever they played.

Invitations to tour quickly followed and air miles were clocked up as guests of U2 on their European dates, with the Smashing Pumkins and across the States and Depeche Mode on their Touring The Angel world tour. Alongside playing their own sold-out headlining tours and appearances at pretty much every major festival in existence the only surprise is how long its taken before the stars have aligned and they make it as far as our beautiful shores!

Second album The Sun and The Moon was recorded with producer Brendan O’Brien whose heavyweight CV includes Springsteen, Rage, Chili Peppers, Pearl Jam, Velvet Revolver and Neil Young. The result is an absolute triumph. Guitars and organic sounds feature more prominently and the album retains every ounce of The Bravery’s trademark songwriting skills and infectious melody. The songs battle against the odds of life and emerge with a sense of joy. It’s a darkly rapturous affair, and hugely addictive!

It’s a huge album, full of big songs with ‘radio shagging hooks’ (NME). Time Won’t Let Me Go shot up the charts reaching #10 on Billboard’s Modern Rock Chart while present single Believe has become the band’s biggest hit in America to date, currently reaching #4 on the Modern Rock Chart and spending 8 weeks in the Top 10.

The Bravery are in irresistible form. Three years of touring and playing some of the biggest stages and events has seen the band evolve into a rock n roll machine with controls set to stun. With Australia and New Zealand next in their sights followed by mainstage billing on The Projekt Revolution 2008 tour, The Bravery are touring their new album around the world as their songs are taking hold.

There really has never been a better time to see them – a band at the top of their game playing intimate venues on this, their first visit to New Zealand.
