Paul McLaney + Kirsten Morrell Tour Line-Up Change

Paul McLaney + Kirsten Morrell Tour Line-Up Change

Thursday, 19th June 2008 12:00PM

Due to illness, Kirsten Morrell is unable to perform in Wellington and Auckland this weekend, as part of the much-anticipated billing of herself and Paul Mclaney.

What do you do when something like this happens at the last moment and you don’t want to let the audience down? Paul, well, he just pulled out his little black book, and he came up with not just one new lovely lady, but quite a few – the irrepressible Sami Sisters, who will join NZ’s beloved troubadour, along with songstress Hannah Curwood and her trusty sidekick Tom Healy, to complete quite an impressive last minute line-up for Friday night’s Masonic Tavern show. Meanwhile Saturday’s scenic venue the Ponsonby Cruising Club will host Paul, Hannah and Tom, and a stunning backdrop of Auckland Harbour. While in Wellington tonight, Paul will joined by the beautiful voice of the Capital’s best-kept secret (but not for much longer) Jess Chambers.

miss management presents - a guy the ladies seem real keen to play with: THURSDAY JUNE 19TH Happy, Wellington Paul Mclaney with special guest Jess Chambers FRIDAY JUNE 20TH Masonic Tavern, Devonport Paul Mclaney with the Sami Sisters, and Hannah Curwood + Tom Healy SATURDAY JUNE 21ST Ponsonby Cruising Club, Westhaven Marina Paul Mclaney with special guests Hannah Curwood + Tom Healy

We went to the Careys Bay gig and were disapointed to find that Kirsten Morrell was not performing (although I do understand she has been sick, so no hard feelings there, I hope she gets well soon). We didn't know Paul McLaney's work (Kirsten was the drawcard for us) but we kept an open mind but ended up a bit annoyed that the entire performance was so short! The warm up act (a lovely young woman of only 16 yrs - certainly one to watch, didn't catch her name?) seemed to only have a few songs so played for about 15 minutes, then Paul played for about 45 mins - a 1 hour gig for $25 is not good value, we felt more than a little cheated. Nice venue though we hope to see more gigs there soon.

I went to this gig on Friday night at the Masonic. Man it was crap. I respect Paul McLaney as a musician, he's awesome on guitar, but he just writes crap songs. Honestly, i was so bored. And what's with the banter about your favourite C6th tuning? No-one cares, just play a song that isn't boring.
I really wanted to like this.
But i couldn't.
