The Mars Volta, the fucking Mars Volta. Nothing quite like this band, and that’s a good thing as it’s a challenging listen. Fans of Mars Volta are fans for life and others just haven’t concentrated enough.

Mars Volta came abount from the Split of At the Drive In when one half formed the excellent Sparta and the other two formed this band.

For those not accustomed to the Mars Volta, their sound is kind of free jam, like King Crimson or Zappa, with soaring guitars and strange effects throughout, and this album sees the band extending on their openness and raising the stakes further.

No other band can combine these riffs and complex interchanges like Mars Volta, and they hang on to their sound by basically kicking the ass of any other ‘trickcore’ band (that’s right I said it!)

Go THE MARS VOLTA live - At Mars Volta the other nite I have had the cobwebs well and truly blown out of my mind and body after being badly depressed for months after my fiance love of my life died in March.

As a muso/radio DJ/critic I agree with nearly all the comments: particularly the stunning capabilities of the drummer. The experimental and WALL OF SOUND element including the pulsing harmonics ("in between" ) that blew my mind and body.

These days I have to sit (I'm 56!!!) but my eyes didnt leave the stage for the whole 2 1/2 hours. So deaf and blown away that afterwards I couldnt physically walk straight up to the doors. Better than a drug!!

Mars Volta @ St James front row up in the GODS was still my favourite venue EVER (please got it up to scratch again SOON!!). COUldnt hear all the lyrics @ Logan Campbell but the sound still whacked through as Mars Volta intends.

Self indulgent- NO! These are real musos with HUGE SKILLS. NO wish to stop selfconsciously for an audience to clap and fawn. They just come on with hardly a word, and PLAY and PLAY AND
P L A Y! Few other bands do it like that.

No fill in performers before them, just MARS VOLTA value for money. We are seeing the real thing here and THAT IS SO RARE I don't know if I want to go to any other performers show EVER.
