AF is thrilled to present a night with Colleen Coco Collins (Canada)

Colleen Coco Collins [she/they] is an interdisciplinary artist of Irish, French, and Odawa descent, working in songwriting, performance, poetry and visual arts. Her practice oscillates temporality, presumptions of sentience, subversion, rhythm, gesture, frequencies, the ouroboric, the orogenous, the peripatetic, love and the polyglottic. She lives littorally in rural Port Greville, Mi’kma’ki/Nova Scotia, Canada amidst crows, coyotes, grackles, bees, humpback, lichen and fox.

Coco has been making things for many years. She has collaborated as a recording and performing artist with musician Will Kidman, and for bands including Status/Non-Status and Julie Doiron. She’s also played with Jon McKiel, Carson McHone, The Burning Hell, Penny and The Pits, Construction & Destruction, and others. Coco’s diverse practise extends to libretti and conceptual visual art, and she has co-created with composer Katharine Petkovski, visual artists Sheilah and Dani ReStack, Claire Greenshaw, and Rita McKeogh; poet Luke Hathaway, musician Zoon, and others. Her work has been shown in galleries across Turtle Island (Can & US), the UK, Eire, and in Australia & NZ/Aotearoa. Her published books include the poetry collections Sorry About The Fire and Radicants (with visual artists Amanda Fauteux and Miranda Bellamy). Coco is currently finishing up her solo album, Vulpes, and recently worked as Writer-in-Residence at UNB Fredericton.

With support from Nranrā - Allana Goldsmith, Rosie Langabeer, Neil Feather

Exploring subtle and complex sounds, the disarming, charming, cardigan wearing westie trio improvises electro-biological music that feels both chaotic and inevitable. Goldsmith’s sounds move effortlessly between melodious phrasing and jagged rupture; Langabeer brings pan/non-tonal keyboard reckonings that flurry and hypnotise; Feather’s approach combines mechanical engineering and gelatinous soundscapes. Together, the capricious trio have an auahatanga entirely their own.
