Bandicoot - Jurassic Warfare Ep Release
Wed Jan 20th, 2010
Doors open: 7:30 pm
Entry: All Ages
After tearing up radio charts across the country and being one of the youngest acts to appear at the Big Day Out, noise-pop three piece BANDICOOT release their sophomore EP, “Jurassic Warfare”.
Frequently cited by musicians and critics alike as “the next big thing in New Zealand” (the likes of Shayne Carter, The Mint Chicks and Bang Bang Eche are fans), Bandicoot have become one of the most hotly-tipped new groups in Auckland.
Despite their collective (under)age, they’ve already topped the Radioscope National Alt.Radio charts and the 95bFM Top Ten with their single “Emotional and Dirty”, scored slots at 2010’s Big Day Out and Campus A Low Hum, and shared the stage - literally, in fact - with Dimmer.
On their 2009 free-to-the-net “Happy Talking” EP , Bandicoot created the sonic equivalent of mixing pop rocks with cola -- with the chemical reaction in this case being a fizzing, barely-controllable eruption, overflowing with energy and fun. Less than a year on, “Jurassic Warfare” amalgamates the raw aural fireworks of the debut EP with a heap of new ideas and approaches thought up during Bandicoot’s meteoric ascent up New Zealands street-level buzz ladder.
The songs on “Jurassic Warfare’ detail bourgeois art-house collectives, walking contradictions, and the modern world’s boring ridiculousness as encountered by Bandicoot’s generation (and previous generations, naturally). Captured this time out in loud-fi, these postcards from the edge capture a time and place that starts tomorrow.
“Jurassic Warfare” looks set to propel Bandicoot from “promising newcomers” to “the most exciting game in town”. Welcome to the future.
Support from the incredible DHDFDs, God Bows To Math, Nice Birds and Cannibal Faggots and DJ sets from Cat Venom and Catholic Guilt throughout the evening.
