Strange News - the little Auckland tour company you know and maybe love - spent the past summer touring some really amazing acts, including WHY', Camera Obscura, Slow Club, Ponytail, Telepathe, The Books, Castanets, Pains of Being Pure at Heart, The Books, Wooden Shjips, The Dodos, Deerhoof, Slow Club... I think there might have even been more.
It was an amazing summer indeed - the best summer ever. But the minor tragedy of it all (get out the violins) is that almost none of those shows managed to cover costs. It costs a LOTTA money to put on shows, and if not enough tickets sell then it's up to Strange News (aka little old me) to try and pay up. It was a weird surprise, but basically after all was tallied up - we're $16,000 in debt. And when I say we, I mean me personally!
So, rather than cry about it or sell my kidneys, I thought perhaps I'd try put on a couple of amazing and fun fundraisers. FUNRAISERS.
So the first of the two is at Wine Cellar & Whammy Bar on May 14th. It's going to be awesome. Look who's playing:
The Drab Doo-Riffs, Street Chant, Lisa Crawley & band, Cool Rainbows with Tiny Ruins, The Gladeyes, and special guests including stand-up comedian expert Joseph Harper and special surprise guests.
