2010: A Skate Odyssey

The planets are aligning to make the Pirate City Roller’s 2010 season a masterpiece of speed, skill and more than a little carnage.

While every season promises aggression, athleticism and more than a few panty flashes, this year an unknown entity is joining the mix to keep the Pirates on their toes. For the first time, the Pirate City Rollers (PCR) is welcoming the Northland Nightmares’ team Hell’s Wives into the mix.

Gone are the days when the PCR teams Mascara Massacre and Dead Wreckoning battled it out amongst themselves. Roller derby is growing fast in New Zealand, and the competition is about to get a whole lot tougher.

So what will Hell’s Wives bring to the table' Pirate City Rollers’ fans are already familiar with the brutal force and aggression of Dead Wreckoning, and the quick steps and speed of Mascara Massacre. What will this new team mean for the season' And will the Hell’s Wives take the trophy back to the deep recesses of Northland'

With so much change in the air it’s good to know some things stay the same. There will still be suicide seats, beer wenches and after parties. The girls will still be donning fishnets and short skirts. And most importantly, the spills, thrills, bruises and bloodshed are still real!

They say in space no one can hear you scream, but at a derby bout it’s mandatory, so pick out your team colours, make a poster for your favourite player, get down to the rink and scream till your throat’s raw!

First bout: May 15th – Skateland, Panmure

The two Pirate City Roller’s teams Dead Wreckoning and Mascara Massacre get a chance to face off and settle some grudges from the 2009 season. Will Mascara be able to speed past with a win, or will Dead Wreckoning reaffirm their status with a victory'
