“Puttin’ on The Ritz”
Club Manouche perform two sets of infectious, uplifting swing and French-style jazz avec l’esprit de Manouche.
“Manouche” jazz, also known as ‘Gypsy swing or Gypsy jazz’ is said to have been started by guitarist Django Reinhardt in and around Paris in the 1930s. The manouche style is still learned today as older generations pass down the knowledge.
The Devonport performance will include Django Reinhardt songs, some with lyrics recently rediscovered from the 40s; some classic swing style tunes such as Putting on the Ritz, I Love Paris; songs by Trenet, Brassens, Piaf, Serge Gainsberg and some Latin American items from the multilingual chanteuse Carolina Moon.
