The Fracture Clinic is an event utilising cutting edge technology such as Serato Scratch and Ableton Live. Artists are sampled, scratched and mashed up on the fly in a genre-defying collaboration of DJs and musicians from the UK, Europe and New Zealand. With live brass, blues harp, percussion and vocals, featuring among others, members of Napiers Tropical Downbeat Orchestra, the Fracture Clinic takes you on a musical journey through funk, ska, jazz, hip hop, dubstep, breakbeat and drum n bass.
Featuring a special solo performance from human beatbox Dr. Badfunk, using a loopstation and Kaoss Pad.
Dr Badfunk is one of the worlds top human beatboxers, having cut his teeth on the gruelling battle circuit in the UK. He has featured on BBC Radio 1 & 1Xtra, performed alongside and collaborated with many of the UKs premier hip hop acts, including Foreign Beggars, Skinnyman, Blade, Beardyman, Stig of the Dump, Dr Syntax, the Scratch Perverts, Blak Twang, Phi Life Cypher and Killa Kela, as well as US hip hop heavyweights M.O.P. and People Under the Stairs, and has also worked with Dave Fielding of seminal indie band the Chameleons and didgeridoo virtuoso Paul Didge.
Tropical Downbeat Orchestra are a 7 piece funk band currently residing in Hawkes Bay.N.Z. Through a diverse background among the members, the Tropics often delve deep with free instrumentalism verging on jazz soul and the grit funk found deep in the crates. Playing together with great bands from all over New Zealand, they are reknown for their live shows.
