Come and listen to Noxshi weave their magic at Juice Bar, the night before they support Yusuf (Cat Stevens) at his Vector Arena show.
Noxshi fuse stirring melodies, psychedelic ambience and heavy rock riffing to conjure thoughts of Zappa, Nirvana and Hendrix. The name Noxshi (Knock-she) relates to an area of the Caucasus, a region that represents the meeting of the Islamic East with the secular West.
Formed in North London in 2008, Noxshi grew out of the central axis of singer Yoriyos (Cat Stevens’ son) and guitarist Hallam Kite. Swedish bassist Alex Gabay brings an unorthodox, highly rhythmic playing style. Keys, samples and atmospherics are provided by Ben Steer. Noxshi are a fierce live force armed with driving rhythms, soaring guitar solos and ethereal voices. The band has supported Yusuf, Baaba Maal, U2, CKY and Peter Murphy.
Noxshi’s debut album ‘The Way They Lush’ is a lightning bolt of reality piercing through an overcast collective dream. The album was mixed by David Tickle (Prince, Peter Gabriel, U2) and mastered by Howie Weinberg (Nirvana, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Soundgarden, Smashing Pumpkins, The Mars Volta, Jeff Buckley, Kyuss). The album artwork was designed by Klaus Voorman who created the album cover for The Beatles’ ‘Revolver’. Noxshi have produced a video for the track ‘Mesh Voyeurist’ which sees the band play on the psychedelic imagery of dreams.
