Lewis McCallum is one of New Zealands most exciting and innovative musicians, well known for dealing out fiery shows on the saxophone in the clubs of Auckland. Lewis brings his deep knowledge of jazz to the stage and studio, fusing it with modern forms of dance and beats culture, resulting in a truly unique sound.
Lewis is a well established producer, having created two albums of his own original music: Wake (2007) and Syntheology (2010) which will be released in Japan on the label Wonderful Noise. Both albums feature NZs premiere vocalists: Mara TK, Francis Kora, Esther Stephens, Tama Waipara, Cherie Mathieson, Deva Mahal.
Lewis has also worked with Riki Gooch (Eru Dangerspiel), Hollie Smith, Opensouls, Relax-o-matic Project, Batucada Sound Machine and also played a large role in recording Julien Dynes Pins & Digits album.
Lewis McCallum is one of those rare musicians who is not afraid to embrace the new, while retaining elements of jazz & soul in his music. His time is now, so listen up! - Nathan Haines
McCallum is making music for the love of it, and it shows in how effortless, deep, and inventive it sounds.”- NZ HERALD - Scott Kara
