Gig Information

Come along to the recently renovated University of Auckland Shadows Bar to hear these great exponents of contemporary popular music, who are all currently studying at the School of Music,

JANINE FOSTER

Janine Foster – vocals/synth/guitar

Oli Holmes – bass

Nik Donaldson – drums

Winner of the Songwriter of the Year 2010, Janine is a magical music-box of synth pop. Her tunes are cute, quirky and clever with an original twist you have never seen before, plus the girl can SING! Janine is in her final year of study at The University of Auckland’s School of Music, and is already beginning to take the Auckland music scene by storm.

“...a voice which can shift from delicate ... to quivering soulful emotion.” – Graham Reid, publicaddress.net

THE BAYONETS

Phil Austen – lead vocals/guitar/piano/harmonica

Martin Paris – guitars

Paul Robertson – bass

Joel Bremner – drums/percussion

The Bayonets are a rising four-piece band based in Auckland whose performance credits include; Telecom Movies in the Park; TV1’s Good Morning Show; KiwiFM; Balcony TV and Farmstock 2009. The group made it into the top 20 of the inaugural nationwide MTV 42 Unheard Competition, and released their debut EP ‘King, Country and Title’ to a packed house earlier this year.

School of Music students Phil Austen, Martin Paris and Paul Robertson formed the group in mid 2008 during their first year of study in the Bachelor of Music degree. All three are soon to graduate from the Popular Music Programme.

“The Bayonets will steal your heart.” – Kara Segedin, NZ Musician Magazine

MARTIN PARIS

Martin Paris – vocals/guitar

Sam Allen & Matt Nanai – backing vocals

Philip Kim – keys

Talita Setyady – upright bass

Alex Freer - drums

Martin’s songs are an amalgamation of a life grown in music, filtered through his own pains and experiences and delivered in crisp, earthy tones. Drawing from such great influences as: Nat King Cole, Michael McDonald, Michael Jackson, Prince, John Mayer, The Shins, Jamiroquai, N*E*R*D and Roy Hargrove to name a few. Martin is in his final year of study at The University of Auckland, with the end of 2010 marking his completion of 3 years studying Popular Music under Stephen Matthews.
