Introducing SHAG ROCK - the sonic equivalent of Johnny Cashs and Keith Richards bastard lovechild brought up on a strict diet of one-eyed country soul, and force-fed lashings of acrid punk mixed with sweet Britpop... playing live and free at Sumners famous home of live music The Marine on Friday 17th December along with a brass band and Christmas carols.
Sumners answer to The Black Crows, Shag Rock play a highly diversified energetic set, their songs span the range from country, folk, punk, blues and rock and have performed at The Oamaru Wine and Food Festival, supported GIN in 2010 and Hollie Smith in 2011 as well as clubs and parties around the South Island. They are set to bring their live energy to Sumners favourite bar The Marine with a very special Christmas show.
Join them to help celebrate a long, hot summer break and finish the working year along with a brass band, xmas carols building into a great night of your favourite songs and a few originals thrown in for good measure.
WHAT THEY SAY...
Shag Rock performed to a 3,000 strong family crowd at the 2010 Oamaru Wine and Food Fest. Playing outdoor in a botanical gardens setting, their rhythm and British flavoured lyrics are a combination hard to find in New Zealand. Supporting act to headline act Gin Wigmore, Shag Rock primed and lubricated the crowd exceptionally well, with their set of climbing rock tempos. Shag Rock are the ideal sound for both indoor and outdoor locations, performing rock classics that appeal to a wide ranging audience.
Simon Berry, Oamaru Festival Organiser.
These guys know how to party, their lead singer and guitarist Mick 300 Songs MCormick is a verified madman, a freak of nature with a voice to boot. Wed have them every night of the week if we could.
Doc Docherty, Manager of The Marine.
