Steve Barry relocated from Auckland to Sydney in early 2009 and has quickly become one of Sydney’s most sought-after pianists. Currently studying at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, Steve has also furthered his study of jazz with major international artists such as Alan Broadbent, Jon Gordon, Florian Ross and SeanWayland. He is the recipient of numerous awards including Most Outstanding Musician, Best Pianist and Best Composition at the Tauranga International Jazz Festival. Described as being “inventive, creative and humorous”, Steve has worked with numerous prominent Australasian and international artists such as John Hollenbeck(USA), Theo Bleckmann (USA), George Coleman Jr. (USA), The Jazzgroove Mothership Orchestra, Dale Barlow, Simon Barker and James Muller (AUS). He recently recorded an album with the Jazzgroove Mothership Orchestra and vocalist Kristin Beradi, set to be released in early 2011.Joined by fellow Sydney-sider Alex Boneham on bass and local legend Frank Gibson on drums, the trio will create jazz improvisation on both standards and original compositions.
CJC
The Creative Jazz Club, is a proactive community of musicians and jazz fans (non-musicians) alike, who are committed to furthering the development of quality, improvised music in NZ. With its move to 1885, CJC is developing its programming of national and international artists, creating a unique performance space in Auckland for high calibre jazz artists and pianists to perform.

As a CJC member, you get the chance to support and be a part of the community’s growth, and the opportunity to perform as part of its creative program.
Other Member benefits include a discounted entrance fee on the door, a discount on selected wine and beer on the bar and on two food items on CJC club nights. There is also the chance to go into the draw for a weekly prize of new jazz CDs, and when available, Members will also have the opportunity to win jazz concert tickets.
Membership is $40 a year. CJC is a non profit organisation and revenue goes back into CJC.
CJC was founded and is run by Roger Manins, Mark Robinson and Carolina Moon with Ben McNicoll joining the team as Mark recently moved to Australia.
