RED DOG SALOON BAND
The Red-Dog Saloon Band consists of Dave Murphy, Dougal Speir, Elliott Fuimaono and Roger Watkins. Theyll have you dancin you can bet your boots on that one!
Murphy and Speir were spawned from many a back street bar or inner city speak easy. These two fine musicians have been part of the New Zealand music scene for a very long time and both have a string of credits to their name, some of which they refuse to admit to, adequately supported by Elliott on bass and Roger on drums.
Dave Murphy plays in the style of Mississippi John Hurt, Robert Johnson and a whole host of other old blues guys. Dougal Speir on the other hand is more adept at ripping off lead riffs unheard since the death of the likes of Roy Buchanan, Rory Gallagher or Jimi Hendrix so! You can only imagine what sort of combination they form together on stage. Interesting, I hear you say, definitely, worth a listen, most definitely, but don’t forget entertaining as well.
When asked about the combination Dougal said When we first got together a lot of people thought we were mad, they said things like ‘Murph, do you know who this guy is, it’s Dougal the mad guitarist Speir’ and ‘your styles will never mix’, well we proved them wrong. OK I’m still mad but our styles do mix, so there! While Dave just said ok, let’s just play anyway.
So if you want to hear the greatest mix of country blue you can dance to, enjoy your listening time, and maybe even have a bit of a jive, let the Red Dog Saloon Band fill your needs.
