The New Zealand Symphony Orchestra and 2011 Auckland Arts Festival presents:
A SYMPHONIC ODYSSEY
New Zealand Symphony Orchestra
An exhilarating and inspiring experience. This Festival concert, takes its cue from Stanley Kubricks magisterial 1968 movie 2001: A Space Odyssey. As the Symphony Orchestra launches into a programme of orchestral greats and modern masterpieces of beauty and vibrancy.
“[James Judd’s] performance is very grand, intense, at times genuinely ecstatic”
- Guardian News
In this special Festival concert, NZSO’s Music Director Emeritus James Judd unleashes his creative energy on a selection of work that restores the true meaning of the word awesome.
The virtuosic vocal ensemble, V8, joins the orchestra to bring the concert to a stunning finale. Layered with V8’s superbly-crafted vocal pyrotechnics, the Orchestra will take audiences on a musical joyride through three masterpieces featured in the soundtrack of 2001 and Berio’s Sinfonia, the musician’s tribute to Samuel Beckett and other great literary masters.
