Blues Innovators Storehouse on the “Brain Surgeon Limbo Tour”

Saints and sinners alike will shake it to the original groove this March and April on the 17-date Storehouse “Brain Surgeon Limbo” tour. Their ramshackle and raw blend of rent party blues, smutty calypso and slave-era spirituals has been proven to make women leap from wheelchairs, brain surgeons limbo, and shoes fly off men’s feet.

Featuring foot-stomping singer/guitarist Tom Rodwell, and singer Coco Davis (who recently stole the show in Auckland Theatre Company’s production of Cabaret) plus a revolving cast of monster musician sidemen, Storehouse have appeared in over 700 shows in the US, UK, Switzerland, Holland and New Zealand.

Notorious in Auckland - and increasingly nationwide - for their marathon dancefloor shows, Storehouse recently supported Trinity Roots at the Auckland Town Hall, and are the unofficial house band at Auckland’s bohemian HQ, the Wine Cellar.

Storehouse guide audiences through the lesser-known alleyways of the blues world - including slave shouts, prison work-songs, street preacher rave-ups, calypso and beyond, often featuring unusual instrumentation (broomstick, tabla, accordion, marimba have all recently surfaced) and continual experimentation with musical form and structure.

“With no fixed arrangements, and an approach of constant reinvention, our shows are constantly evolving, leaving them open to whatever the night brings. The feeling is the only content of this music,” says Rodwell.

Storehouse take audiences from the introspection of spirituals to the uplifting physical intensity that only blues - the original dance music - can deliver. Now it’s your turn to shake, shimmy and shout. Bring your sister.

NME: Tom Rodwell is Sheffields answer to Lightnin Hopkins.”

BLUES IN LONDON: Rodwell manages to eschew the cliches that beset blues music. By turns wild, angry, hypnotic and sensual, its as uncompromising as it is funky and some of the best live music Ive seen.

METRO (NZ): Soul-probing... Raw, avant-garde improvisations.

BLUES IN BRITAIN: Psychotic gospel music.

BBC WORLD SERVICE: Been a while since anyones heard a song quite like that.

COMING SOON ON FIREPLACE: “LIVE HUMBLE” - full-length Storehouse album.
