Shakes & the Swell Guys are a local institution requiring no introduction. Their scruffy mix of garage-psychedelic-swamp-punk-surf-swing is a pick & mix of rock and roll goodness. Opposite Sex are new to Dunedin, recently relocated from Gisborne where they have played with the likes of Die! Die! Die! and The Puddle. They play a cool mix of punky rock-a-billy jazz-pop. Tim plays drums like hes auditioning for the Jesus & Mary Chain and the Ramones at the same time, Lucy plays melodic and propulsive lead bass runs and sings like shes fronting a French new wave band in 1980 while Fergus adds the most tastefully jazzy/ rock-a-billy guitar runs overtop. The mix of such diverse styles makes them unique and strangely European.
