This year as an official part of May NZ Music Month, West-Auckland’s own ukulele trio The Nukes are set to play two great concerts at Fairfield House 13th & 14th May, Friday & Saturday nights and one for the kids on Sunday 15th 1pm.
They will spend the entire weekend from the 13th to 15th May in Nelson running workshops and performing concerts at the historic Fairfield House; all part of a concept called the ‘Ukulele Weekend’ . ‘Ukulele weekends’ combine concerts with workshops for adults/ groups and children in an action packed couple of days. David says ‘this is so we can make the best of visiting a place like Nelson and really leave an impact’.
Worshops on Saturday 10am to 2pm and Sunday 10.30am to 12pm
The Nukes line-up includes David Parker who plays a tenor uke with a dropped down G string for bass lines. He is referred to as 'Fingers of Fire' in the group for reasons (supposedly) apparent in live shows.
Affectionately referred to as 'Snapper' David Thiele plays a Banjolele made famous in the early 20th Century by the likes of Roy Smeck and George Formby, lending a distinctive retro feel to THE NUKES sound.
Ben 'Country Boy' Collier played drums for the great New Zealand group Golden Horse.Ben writes the majority of THE NUKES original repertoire;
The Nukes have built a reputation based on the creative use of their limited instrument of choice, superb harmonies and outstanding songwriting.
