SONS OF ZION

Sons Of Zion are a six-piece fusion band whose sound is combined of reggae, heavy rock, dub and funk. Since their 2007 New Zealand Music Month debut, Sons Of Zion have continued to build momentum in the NZ music industry and have stamped their unique sound locally at festivals such as Parachute and Raggamuffin. Sons Of Zion have already shared the stage with NZ Roots heavyweights Kora, Katchafire, The Black Seeds, Cornerstone Roots, Opensouls and House of Shem. They released their debut album Sons Of Zion in 2009, which left critics heralding them as the next big thing in New Zealand’s reggae scene.

TOMORROW PEOPLE

A studio project turned live stage show, this Wellington 8-piece band are purveyors of what they describe as ‘sunshine reggae’. Focused on providing a mid-tempo sound that, while clearly reggae-centric, adds touches of dancehall ragga to its colour. It is a sound built around strong vocals, soothing harmonies, catchy hooks, aggressive ragga raps, and feel good riddims (rhythms). Taking their name from a Ziggy Marley song, Tomorrow People live up to the futuristic allusions it casts, having built their fanbase via Facebook and tracks uploaded to YouTube.

Predominantly marketing online has allowed the band to preview unreleased songs for their fan base, and they have had an overwhelming response to date with over 110,000 views of their songs in a few short months. Their listenership picks up numbers by the day. 2011 sees the band record their debut album and hit the road to play shows nationwide.
