‘NZTrio has established itself as one of the finest chamber ensembles in Australasia’- John Button, Dominion Post
‘NZTrio have become a national treasure. Their performances are always slick, intelligent and professional – just as can be expected – however they are also delightfully and refreshingly lacking in pretentious ostentation.’ – Marian Poole (Otago Daily Times) – May 2011
Formerly the Ensemble In Residence at Auckland University NZTrio (Sarah Watkins- pianist, Ashley Brown – cellist, Justine Cormack – violinist) collaborate with some of the finest musicians in the world. Now independent of the university, NZTrio are fast becoming the piano trio to watch in the southern hemisphere. Their passion for New Zealand composers and their love of ‘the classics’ makes their concerts vibrant and exciting, juxtaposing classical masterpieces with brilliant contemporary works, mixing musical cultures and genres.
NZTrio’s concert at The PumpHouse on 26 June will be the last national concert before the trio head off to perform in the prestigious City of London Festival in July. The local concert’s programme includes three works which will also be preformed in London – so it will be a wonderful opportunity to hear these world class musicians on home ground.
NZTrio joins The Royal New Zealand Ballet and the New Zealand String Quartet in London as this year’s festival has a special focus on Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific.
