Trickbaby are an electronica duo from both the UK and Wellington. Formerly known as Photosphere, Trickbaby have reformed and are delighting audiences with their unique brand of soul, electro-funk and trip-hop.
Made up by Angela Boyd on vocals and producer DJ Balanced on turntables and keys, Trickbaby\'s blend of programmed beats and live instrumentation breathes new life into Wellington\'s dance scene. Constantly experimenting with a rotating band of musicians, they have recently added a 3-piece horn section to complete their sound.
Influenced heavily by the Ninja Tune, Tru Thoughts and Talkin\' Loud labels and artists such as Cinematic Orchestra, Massive Attack, Tricky, Leftfield, Portishead, Alice Russell, Quantic Soul Orchestra, Marvin Gaye, Nina Simone and Roni Size; TrickBaby are interested in exploring the producer/vocalist dynamic and craft soulful songs regardless of their electronica leaning.
Oy Azoy are a 6-piece Wellington band mixing up traditional and original klezmer tunes with anything and everything, including funk, hip-hop and surf rock. Think Fiddler on the Roof meetsThe Cat Empire.
Described as the type of music Django Reinhardt and James Brown would have created had they spent months getting wasted on a beach in Cuba, you know you\'re in for one helluva ride when watching these guys perform.
