NZ Live Entertainment is bringing a showcase of Wellington acoustic solo musicians and bands to Meow on Wednesday July 27th at 7pm. Guests from past Black Cotton Sessions will be playing alongside other acts famous to Wellington:
The Black Cotton Sessions are an ongoing series of events designed to support local charitable causes while promoting local musicians and poets. This show will be the fourth of its kind with proceeds from the previous three events going to benefit the Wellington Women’s Health Collective and Wellington Youthline. So far The Black Cotton Sessions have raised $770 for local Wellington charities and effort continues.
This time the focus is being placed on a worthy cause somewhat closer to home. A friend, popular radio broadcaster, regular face at the Medusa Song Sale, Declan Doherty-Ramsey – who is currently fundraising to find his biological father, who is last known to be in the UK. Declan has never met his father and the significance of finding him can not be overstated. To enable Declan to make his trip to the UK he has set up a campaign webpage (http://www.indiegogo.com/Help-Me-Find-My-Father) where people can make donations. In return for their generosity donors receive perks – For example donors are able to request that Declan write song for them on the topic of their choosing.
This concept of giving people something in return for their generosity has led to the idea of creating a small album worth of songs to offer donors which is being recorded by Simon Blackwell at ThreeSixFive Studio in Brooklyn. Once recorded, Declan plans to sell his album online, in local stores and gigs.
“If this album becomes a reality it will help me to raise enough money to get to the UK and fulfill two of my dreams – releasing an album of my original music and finding my father. It would mean the world to me.” Says Declan.
This project does have some upfront costs however, and NZ Live Entertainment is currently assisting Declan in finding sponsors to assist financially.
There will be the opportunity to make donations at the July 27th Black Cotton Acoustic Session.
