====================
In July of 2010 at Whitireia School of Music, four piece band Āio was formed. These likeminded musicians where drawn together from different corners of Aotearoa to create a new sound. Despite the fact that they are only a 4 piece band, they exercise their musicianship and utilise their instruments to produce a full, distinctive sound. They have only been together since July 15th 2010 and in this short time they have toured all around New Zealand and Australia playing alongside many National and International acts. The members of Āio have all come from musical backgrounds and united to form a band with a great musicianship, harmonious vocals, a huge stage presence and bass heavy music for the soul.
Āio recorded their debut EP at York Street Studios which will be ready for release in October 2011. In the meantime they will be releasing their single Bassment Groove July 15th which will be available from iTunes. The carefully selected songs on the EP consist of a mash up of genres including r’n’b, jazz, soul, reggae and rock. These are the genres of music that have had an influence on the individual band members which creates the original sound and style of Āio.
The band thought it would be appropriate to release their single ‘Bassment Groove’ July 15th 2011 because it marks their first anniversary as a band. On July 15th 2010 they performed for the first time at the Massey University ‘Muse Radio’ launch party. Since then, they have been making waves through the music industry. Although they have been working hard to master their craft and jumping at any opportunity to perform, they have somewhat remained out of the limelight laying the foundation and constructing their self managed business in preparation for 2012. In saying that, the word is spreading fast that Āio is a live band to look out for.
