!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!LIVE AT BODEGA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

THE CHECKS are back with a brand new album. Produced by multi-Grammy-winner Bassy Bob Brockman, THE CHECKS third studio album Deadly Summer Sway is set for release on the auspicious date of eleven-eleven-eleven.

Album Release Party is at Bodega, on 11.11.11 with Space Creeps and The SlurTones !

From day one, THE CHECKS have combined their unique sound with an unlimited source of raw energy, harnessed by their music and expelled into their audience. Their catalogue of dance provoking songs consistently drives the show into a frenzy whether its from the corner of your living room, King Tuts in Glasgow or the Cake Tin in Wellington.

“…the list of bands that New Zealanders The Checks have supported is an almost embarrassing name-check of some of the biggest superstar groups you could imagine – ACDC, Oasis and REM being the most honorable mentions..” Chris Yates, TimeOff, Australia, 2010

(Not to mention…The Hives, Muse, Black Rebel Motor Cycle Club, The Killers, Jet, The Hold Steady, Turbo Fruits, The Rakes, Florence and the Machine and Maximo Park…)

ABOUT THE ALBUM

In early 2011 THE CHECKS took up residence in a semi-abandoned building in the neon guts of Aucklands CBD. Office space was converted to recording studio; dingy walls that look like they would taste of capers and grimy benches became pinup space for song forms and artwork. Treacle Toffee World (their pre-england practice/writing space) was born again.

A month out from zero hour, Bassy Bob flew in from New York City and became one with the band, engulfed every night in the hectic world of THE CHECKS creative process. After three intense weeks demoing the new tracks, the album took shape just in time to enter the analogue playground of Roundhead Studios. Deadly Summer Sway combines crisp warm tones of ribbon mics, The Whos 1974 Neve mixing console and twenty four track tape with a hip hop producers digital swagger. The raw punk energy present in their early sound has evolved into a more colourful and intricate sonic weave.

“The Checks were the complete package. Looking the part, sounding fantastic and clearly possessing songwriting abilities that allow them to stand out from the overcrowded indie/rock/pop bottleneck that too often suffers from a lack of depth or longevity …One cannot surpass the eccentric on stage persona that defines a good front man and it was this that gave The Checks that extra edge. …. The rapport with the audience was excellent and the spontaneity of joining the mosh whilst singing or encouraging the lights to be turned out for a whole song gave the gig its inimitable stamp…” - fasterlouder.com.au
