Featuring Infinite Flying Kick, the Wicks and Artisan Guns
On Saturday the 27th of October Makeshift is taking over Coherent. They are filling it with fresh New Zealand music and covering it in local art to celebrate the latest release of the contributor-based Makeshift Magazine. The party explores and pays tribute to the act of creating art, featuring drawing boards, artworks, and interactive displays.
To launch their new issue in style Makeshift has collected an exciting group of musicians to tickle the eardrums of attendees. The night includes performances by Infinite Flying Kick, Artisan Guns, The Wicks and special guests. As a special treat Hamilton-based nerd-core artist MC Stormtroopa will be acting as emcee for the evening, throwing his own brand of showmanship into the mix.
The show is presented by Makeshift, a collaborative group of artists and designers who aim to promote the local arts in a way that is both inclusive and fun. The collaborative started in 2006 and has since been finding new and different ways of bringing people together to celebrate art and music within New Zealand.
The launch offers a night like no other that seeks to entertain and enlighten with artwork, games and ways to create art on the night. From doodling on a drawing board to waxing lyrical in the karaoke room, the evening is filled with ways for people to rediscover their creative side and celebrate local art and music. Steven Lyons, one of the organisers says, We are always striving to put on fun events which celebrate creativity. The easiest way to achieve this is to break down some barriers, play some games and make some art.
Makeshift Magazine is a contributor-based publication that showcases new work from fresh local artists. Makeshift offers new and up-and-coming writers, artists and designers the opportunity to be exposed to a new audience, and gives readers the opportunity to see what their community has to offer. The content accepted from contributors is diverse, including writing, design, photography, illustration, poetry, and just about anything else that can be printed on a page.
