Gig Information

Brendon Thomas and the Vibes and Strangely Arousing bring their unique blend of funk, rock and ska with a touch of psychedelia to the Cabana in Napier. You are in for a night of epic proportion which may indeed disrupt the space-time continuum for those that attend.

If Frank Sinatra and Barnaby Weir went on a drug fueled night out and created a super-powered love child, that would be Strangely Arousing.

There is no one genre attatched to Strangely Arousing, they draw their influence from Rock, Jazz, Reggae, Ska and anything else they find inspiration from. This funked-up 6 piece has travelled the country, won 2 national titles, professionally recorded over 10 tracks and opended for the likes of Fat Freddy's Drop, Damien Marley and the Black Seeds. Not bad for a bunch of 20 yr olds. Strangely Arousing creates an eclectic contagious atmosphere forcing you to immerse yourself in music, all bios and talk-ups aside, they are:

Strangely Arousing

Bohemian trio Brendon Thomas & The Vibes, comprised of frontman Brendon Thomas, drummer Timothee Nolier and bassist Michael Anderson teleported from the psychadelic 60’s to our TV screens earlier this year, auditioning for the sophomore season of The X Factor NZ.

The Auckland-based outfit applied for the show after the announcement of a bands category, a first in the show’s international franchise. After a barnstorming take on Hendrix’s Foxy Lady, Brendon and his stagemates earned themselves a reputation as a live highlight among the show’s top 12.

Wearing their influences (Hendrix, Zeppelin, The Beatles, The Who) on their tassled sleeves, Brendon Thomas and The Vibes made their way to the show’s grand final, putting their signature spin on every song they covered, smashing a few guitars and guiding their debut EP The Eclectic to #1 on the NZ iTunes charts.

Eventually taking third place in the show, the band has returned to their well-worn gig circuit, doing what they do best – delivering one of the most electric live shows around, with a full live calendar that boasts profile gigs like Rhythm & Vines and Homegrown Festival. Signed to Sony NZ, they're currently working on their sophomore Album with Split Enz legend Eddie Rayner.
