French-Kiwi co-founders Tui Mamaki and Monsieur Escargot gather around them a selection of talent to perform, record, and forge the vessel a musical project linking peoples, landscapes and languages. The core duo Tui Mamaki and Monsieur Escargot performed together for the first time at Errobiko Festibala in Pays Basque, France in 2004, and had the crowd climbing trees for a view at WOMAD this year. A humming collective of five New Zealand artists join them for live performances in Nelson. Their show is costumed and beautiful. With recent acclaimed performances at the Adelaide Fringe Festival, AK07 and the Big Day Out, The Mamaku Project spreads festive warmth wherever they go.
Sprouting their own version of New Zealand song, taking in Pacifica, dub/ reggae and jazz styles with a distinctly cinematic weave. A new national treasure.
