BrazilBeat Sound System keep the sun shining on the Bay of Plenty when they bring their heated, bass-heavy sound back The Mount on 15 Nov.
Brazilian percussionist/MC Nego Beto and American DJ Mara started mixing up house and dub with live elements in California back in 2000. Eight years later, they call New Zealand home, touring regularly in the North and South Islands, and featuring at festivals. They affirm they are still on a high from their recent US tour which took them to New York, San Francisco and Los Angeles. "The reception for the album was amazing," says Nego Beto. "The university radio stations really picked it up and all the gigs were successful."
BrazilBeats debut full length album Nova was released last year in New Zealand.
Today in their live sets BBSS incorporate a healthy dose of the Brazilian ghetto craze "baile funk" together with electro, breaks and the deeper tribal sounds of their original tracks, rounded out by roots genres like samba and reggae. Betos hard-case MC style and riveting performances on congas, timbales, bongos, drum machines and varied percussion instruments feed the crowds energy and ensure a thumping good time.
South American DJs Pato (Chile) and Alex Fish Hook (Argentina) support.
