Performing their debut project at Cassette this April, 'Planet Keith' envelopes the bands current environment and sets the foundation for what is to come. With support from Hot Knives and Round Buddah, allow them to introduce you to the musical atmosphere that is Keith. ??
KEITH -
Keith's approach to sound has always been familiar yet fresh. Tapping into each of their individual tastebuds, the resulting noises blur the lines between Funk, Hip-Hop & Psychedelic music. The bands journey to this point has been filled with collaboration, experimentation and good old-fashioned work ethic, all amounting to this, Planet Keith. Building their presence through monthly Keith Makes A Beat improvised cypher nights at Lowtide, and an array of shows performed throughout Auckland's vibrant scene, they are a testament to persistence, aided with talent and hindered by little. A sonic environment filled with what they believe encapsulates their presence in todays ever-changing atmosphere, Keith definitely aren't to be slept on.
HOT KNIVES –
What happens when you mix musicians from backgrounds in Hip Hop, Metal, Gospel, Jazz and Hard Rock? Something that can only be described through experiencing the force of Hot Knives in live performance. This strange eclectic melting pot of rhythm and melody is hard to put into words, but very easy to understand.
The 5 members of Hot Knives met in mid 2017 with the recording of lead singer, Bobandii’s track “Nazarite” which pushed them into the Auckland live circuit. Here, the band found their identity though jazz infused improvised live sets and a series of head knockers which went on to become their Solo EP. The band continues on their journey into 2019 on a mission to release their debut album and take it beyond our shores
ROUND BUDDAH –
Round Buddah is an Auckland-based R&B/hip-hop band that explores not only interesting instrument arrangements but also honest and raw lyrics. Since forming in 2014, their style has morphed from an instrumental group to the current line-up of Holly Afoa (vocals), Jackson Lester (rap), Sam Nash (bass), Tom Taylor (keys/synths), and Chris Townsend (drums). Round Buddah released their first single, Rejected, in June 2017. The song was picked up by Spotify's Fresh Finds: Fire Emoji playlist, leading to an international following
