Actor Slash Model is Ricky French and Karen Anson from Melbourne and Adam Zarth from Sydney.
With a lo-fi, high-energy philosophy, Actor Slash Model utilise cheap toy keyboards, synths, old beat-up guitars and inventive, pounding drums to construct elaborate and beautiful beat-driven pop songs.
There is no one musical style to Actor Slash Model. No two songs or sets sound the same. They travel from raw electro punk to dance to mangled noise that echoes a post-rock past to hushed pop melodies that are as sweet as custard.
In 2007, ASM released the much loved EP “Gossip About Guys” on new Melbourne label, Mistletone. The single “My Agent Says” received substantial airplay on radio stations across the country, including Triple J, where it was playlisted and featured as a ‘catch-of-the-day’. The song was also playlisted in Wellington on Radio Active 89FM.
This summer see their third tour to New Zealand, one that includes an invite to play the Camp A Low Hum festival for the second time. They will be selling limited edition NZ Tour CDs, featuring tracks from the forthcoming debut album. New Zealand will be the first country in the world to get its hands on these songs.
Touring with Actor Slash Model will be Ned Collette, another star of the Melbourne scene, as well as Pikelet. Aucklanders Trees Climbing Trees join the band for two of the shows as well.
