THE KILLS return to New Zealand for Auckland and Wellington shows
Since NZ last witnessed the viscerally-charged, mean rock & roll thrills of The Kills live, a whole lot has happenened. The London-based duo of Jamie Hince and Alison Mosshart have encountered all manner of edge-of-sanity kinds of stuff that we wont dwell on here -- but suffice to say it involved rapid country-hopping, hurricane-dodging, and creepy tabloid attention. Then there was the everyday stuff to deal with. The sort of creative anxiety, crippling hangovers, and returns to the scenes of many crimes experienced by many other great duos in history: Delaney & Bonnie, Bonnie & Clyde, Royal Trux, Suicidethe list goes on.
More importantly, in the time since the bands last performance on our shores, The Kills third album Midnight Boom was released, pounding out of radios, disrupting the orderliness of ipod playlists, and appearing on plenty of year-end best of 2008 lists for those who care about such things.
The crowning glory of their musical career thus far, Midnight Boom found The Kills crashing into an alternate reality, where the beats behind their noir sensibilities and fevered eroticicism meant tunes like U.R.A. Fever and Cheap & Cheerful busted their way out of the dirty gutters of The Kills previous residences and into areas signposted urban, with Spankrock producer Armani XXXchange, and this way to the hyper-modern dancefloor. All this while The Kills continued to shine a light into those areas of your psyche which you try to keep hidden.
If you missed this remarkable band last time around, or if you saw them and had your thrill centres sent into overdrive, the return of The Kills to New Zealand should tell you one thing: you have to be there.
Do not miss out.
