Out of “Oblivion” and into the limelight.
Mid-Canterbury local lads Doppler, who predominantly hail from the usually non-descript little town of Mt Hutt Village, have just released their first video for their popular single “Oblivion” with the assistance of an NZ On Air grant. The band debuted their latest single to a massive local and international audience at the recent Area 9 Festival where their infectious blend of indie-rock-pop made them an immediate crowd favourite.
The song “Oblivion”, recorded late last year at York Street Studio in Auckland, is a dark look inside the mind of a young man faced with a bleak reality. The video, directed by Logan McMillan, is set in and around the Christchurch region with the majority of filming taking place on-set in the abandoned wards of Christchurch Women’s Hospital. The setting gives the video a gritty mood, much suited to the band’s edgy sound.
Since their formation in February 2007, Doppler - comprised of Adam Wilson (vocals/guitar), Daniel Wilson (bass/vocals), Matt Gorman (guitar) and Simon Christensen (drums) - have been relentless in their pursuit of total music world domination. That pursuit has seen them achieve astonishing heights in a remarkably short amount of time. In their first three months the boys were finalists in the Christchurch ‘World Battle of the Bands’ Competition, an achievement quickly followed up by gigs playing with fellow kiwi favourites – Opshop, Autozamm, Goodnight Nurse, Atlas and Elemenop. Their own tour of the South Island is due to begin next month.
Doppler truly are destined for greatness, with a meteoric rise to success almost certainly on the cards after the release of their debut music video and single, “Oblivion”. Doppler can be contacted via email: dopplernz@hotmail.com or by phone: Daniel Wilson - 027 346 9510
