Objects define a culture--a music collection or wardrobe can define an individual—but has the pursuit of objects put us at social and economic risk?
LATE 04: "I Am What I Own" investigates how our material side--from music collection to wardrobe--informs our identity.
Following a set by DJ Submariner, Nathan Haines takes the stage to perform his eclectic fusion-jazz, described by the BBC as a "revelation".
The evenings panel discussion, moderated by Findlay Macdonald, asks do clothes really make the man (or woman)?, and features broadcaster Carol Hirschfield; music writer Nick Bollinger; artist Dean Poole; and Jonathan Mane-Wheoki, Te Papa’s Director Art and Collection Services.
The evening also marks the launch or our Sonic Museum project. Top NZ artists such as Don McGlashan, Tiki Taane and Phil Dadson have composed headphone soundtracks for nine of our galleries. Be the first in New Zealand to embark on an audible exploration of the museum.
In addition, a performance by Lisa Crawley and the Conversations as well as a fashion show by Cybele, makes this one mélange of culture and music you won’t want to miss!
