After 40 years of rigorous spiritual practice in the East, NZ guitar legend Doug (Maharaj) Jerebine, makes his first public appearance as a musician, with long time friend and exceptional vocal talent Tommy Ferguson. Their combination has sparked an explosion of original, dynamic and magical music, that extends beyond all genres.

Glasgow born Tommy Ferguson, resident singer on 60’s TV shows C’mon and Happen Inn has lived in the Hokianga for the last 24 years and written many songs. They are both currently recording their original music and compositions.

This historic night will also feature Miles Gillett on drums.
Miles is the son of the brilliant saxophonist and arranger Bob Gillett who played together with Jerebine and Ferguson in the The Brew from 1967 to 1968. Musicians accompanying Doug and Tommy include Gary Clarke, Neil Edwards, Chris Orange and Martin Cook.

For 20 years, Jerebine has been a translator of Sanskrit Vedic scriptures. His music, as his life, is underpinned by a humility that comes from his awareness of the spiritual truth within and without.

Doug’s late sixties work is the blueprint of the first two Human Instinct albums – both of which go for phenomenal amounts now on the collectors market. Doug recorded an album’s worth of material under the moniker Jesse Harper in 1969 which only ever made it to acetate. Less than six copies were cut.
One copy was sent back to NZ and religiously studied by Harvey Mann and associates in the Auckland underground. Another made into the hands of the Human Instinct who used the material for the bulk of their first two albums. In the mid nineties – a copy went on the collectors market for 4000 pounds!
Doug plays his first NZ shows in 41 years on Sat 6th June since leaving NZ in 1968.

ABSOLUTELY AWESOME consummate PERFORMER (and backing musos) What a blast from way back!! A ONE OFF PERFORMANCE (literally) I met Doug (hadn't seen him play for 50 years!!) and Tommy and they will do a tour later in the year - but probably NOT with the jazz group. I got in the car and drove 2 hours to get there as soon as I read about this on from Under the Radar - I wish we could see the gigs a few days early!!!! HEY UNDER THE RADAR PEOPLE - is there any way we could have some pre announcements of what is ocming up in next FEW DAYS at least (or better still even a week) I have always worried about what would happen if I didn't know about a REALLY SPECIAL gig in time.
