Mangawhai-born and bred artist Avya is hosting a dynamic evening of music at Morningside’s newest music venue, Big Fan.
Avya’s latest single ‘You Don’t Get It’ has received nationwide success since its release in November 2022 - rotating on ZM, The Edge, More FM and The Hits and landing her three weeks on the Hot NZ Singles Chart. Meanwhile, her previous singles have been included in curated playlists by Spotify and Apple Music including ’Self Care’’, New Music Daily’, ‘New in Pop’ and ‘New in Singer Songwriter’.
Since placing fifth in TVNZ's Popstars, she has been a 2-time recipient of NZ On Air funding, released her debut music video, opened for artists such as Jeremy Redmore and Jamie Mcdell, and expanded her collection of original material in collaboration with writer and producer Joseph Faris (Ezra Vine, Daily J, Georgia Lines).
With a voice that flawlessly commands the full spectrum of musical and emotional expression, Avya's artistry is modern, and intelligent and stands strong with the new generation of empowered women in music.
Following the release of her summer hit, she has a catalogue of original music ready to debut with her band.
Avya will be joined by friend and fellow artist Benjamin Mack, who will be opening the evening with a set of his magical songs, accompanied by his excellent band.
Benjamin Mack has emerged into the NZ indie scene with a sound that incorporates a radical yet elegant feel to truly put your soul at ease - channelling tones from the 70s and today’s modern indie rock.
