Date: Sunday 2nd August at 2:00pm
Where: Transmission Room: Cnr Mayoral Drive & Queen St, Auckland City
How to register: Bands simply need to register for the upcoming local GBOB Heat through www.gbob.com.
Local bands have been presented with a great opportunity to perform in the world’s largest band competition, the Global Battle of the Bands (GBOB). It’s the first time that Auckland bands will have the opportunity to battle it out against their rival bands in Christchurch and Wellington!
The Auckland Heat is one of 50 Heats across Australia and New Zealand. The top two bands in New Zealand will be sent to the Australasian Final in Sydney where they will be rocking out in front of a judging panel of industry professionals. The judges will decide which band is good enough to compete at the World Final in London, and it is here that the US$100,000 prize money will be there for the taking.
The Heat will run at Auckland’s iconic rock venue, Transmission Room. It is an all ages friendly venue. There are loads of great opportunities and prizes for local bands as the competition progresses, and it is a great way to get the band’s name in the public eye. Last year’s Australasian representatives, Powerage, came second in the world, and have since gone on to perform with ARIA Hall of fame winners, The Angels. They have also recorded a new EP, “Get Ready” which has been highly received by an international audience!
Last year’s Auckland representatives, Tomorrow Day left a great impression at the 2008 Australasian Final. The hard-hitting, heavy metal heads laid a great platform for future New Zealand entrants. A New Zealand band has never made it to the World Final in London, but this year could be different! Already 9 top-quality bands have signed up to compete at the Transmission Room, which shows just how determined these Aucklanders are to represent their home town on the world stage!
Bands are encouraged to sign up right away for the event on Sunday 2nd August. Entries are taken at www.gbob.com up until the day of the Heat. Any questions should be directed towards Ryan from A Red Letter Day (Event Management) on burgessventures1@bigpond.com, or through www.myspace.com/gbobaustralia.
For any spectators, doors open at 2pm. Tickets are $10. It should be a night of high-class entertainment so be sure to support the Auckland music industry at the Global Battle of the Bands!
