Prince and associated artists go toe-to-toe on the dance floor against Michael and the Jackson family during this ultimate party! This face-off promises to be a dance marathon as DJs mix album cuts, remixes, rare tracks and classics from their extensive music collections to battle it out on the turntables.
Join us on the 28th of August at Studio (capacity: 1,000) as we pit Prince up against Michael Jackson in a classic battle which will see each artist being represented by a famous DJ who will play back to back for the main event. That means that a Prince song will be played, then a Michael Jackson song, then a Prince song and so on. Who will win, The Purple One or the King of Pop? Who cares... this is the perfect night out to lounge with your friends, make some new ones, get your drink on and dance the night away to celebrate the music of both these pop stars.
While JoshonDecks (bFM) and the North Shore Pony Club will kick off the evening with music from a variety of different artists to warm you up this will then lead to a ferocious battle between Prince (Bevan Keys) and Michael Jackson (Thane Kirby). To round off the evening, General Lee will play until close.
Upstairs, a specially commissioned live quartet will perform mashed up instrumentals of both Prince and Michael Jackson songs while Quadrant Hotel packages for the best dressed and best dancer will be given away along with CD and DVD giveaways from the record labels. There will also be bar tabs and champagne flowing along with visuals provided by Samsung to ensure everyone has a great night out.
BEVAN KEYS (Prince)
Bevan can be found pumping Auckland dance floors just about any day of the week and has held residencies at almost all of Aucklands most popular clubs. Bevan began DJing back in 1985 and has since shared billings with Danny Tenaglia, Roger Sanchez, Derrick Carter, Phil Asher and at New Zealands first Ministry of Sound event in 1997, and again in 1999. A talented and relaxed DJ, he has a love of black American music and spins it with style and finesse.
THANE KIRBY (Michael Jackson)
Thane Kirby is New Zealands greatest living Aucklander! He can be heard on George FM weekdays from midday playing an eclectic selection of tracks set to the pleasantries of Kirbys actual life. A founder of radio and television, a future super city mayor hes worth a listen!
NORTH SHORE PONY CLUB
The North Shore Pony Club are a genre bending block party band who busted down from the over ground at the beginning of 2005. Disillusioned by the glam hop and chic rock currently smearing the face of popular music, we are here to pour accelerant on the smoldering embers of dance culture. As a couple of kids reared on 80s pop sophistication our music is an amalgamation of black gold and white trash mixed up in a bastard disco blender.
