Gig Information

World Tandem Ensemble presents a debut convergence of minds scattered across the north island. A set of music that’s brought to you by musicians, half Wellington, half Auckland. Ideas sprouted in either city, coming together to create a musical garden.

Iggy Nama Ruci on Alto and Bari Sax and Flute, fronts the group with an undeniably powerful voice on his chosen horn. Having just come back from touring in India and South Africa with a fresh approach to improvisation. Iggy played in the beginning of the year with his quartet at Āto, which sold out. He’s excited to figurehead a group of new sounds, and innovative improvisation.

Isaac Randel on the tenor is known as an aggressive and assertive voice in the Wellington jazz scene. His compositions and playing styles take influence from post-coltrane generations of the music, and provides a strong foundation for everyone to lift off of. Isaac is contributing to the setlist with original compostitions that draw from aspects of other forms of music, like folk, experimental and straight ahead.

Miro Holland just came back from Amsterdam and is ready to share his unique sound. Drawing from influences like Hannibal Lokumbe, Roy Aldridge and Don Cherry, Miro’s sound is dynamic, and emotionally potent. Miro is capable of taking control of the rhythm section and shaping the way the band makes decisions.

Jack Harris is a double bass player born and raised in Wellington, well versed in the tradition of swing, yet is not scared to push music into places. He’s high in demand as a bass player in the Wellington jazz scene, and is highly reliable at letting everyone flourish. Whether he’s playing trad with The Dads, or something more modern with his Vege Trio, Jack makes an impression as a strong voice.

Finn McNeil is a drummer with a unique take on the sound of jazz. Having frequently gigged with local greats like Roger Manins, Jeff Henderson and Will Goodinson, Finn is excellent at providing texture, interest and fire, giving bands he plays in an intentional powerful direction.

Ryan Tomov is a pianist and bassist, who’s role in tandem world, is doubling both instruments. Ryan swaps between a highly chordal approach to piano and a firmly rooted bass sound. Ryan is the pioneer of fruju peak. Ryan is known for his grounded centred earthy bass playing, and he is always implementing new ways of playing in Auckland.
