PSYCHEDELIC SAN FRANCISCO QUARTET...
WOODEN SHJIPS

SUNDAY 1st APRIL - KINGS ARMS, AUCKLAND
MONDAY 2nd APRIL - BAR BODEGA, GHUZNEE ST, WELLINGTON

... Wooden Shjips seem to have their wagon hitched to a post psychedelic/punk damaged Krautrock environ that just not enough people are astute enough to homestead. --Tom Lax, Siltblog

Strange News, Bodega and www.undertheradar.co.nz are beaming from ear to ear to announce, returning to our shores - the hypnotic garage grooves of WOODEN SHJIPS.

After last years incredible sweat-fest at Whammy and Bodega respectively, New Zealand will once again get to experience the murky, groove-laden drone-fest that is a Wooden Shjips live performance!

With their heady blend of Krautrock, 60s and 70s groove, and Flying Nun inspired fuzz, Wooden Shjips have been steadily building their fanbase, releasing impossibly small runs of their recordings on limited edition vinyl pressings, and this year crossing into a whole new territory: professional recording studios. Introducing West - Wooden Shjips most varied, accessible, and awesome album to date!

West marks the first time the band recorded in a proper studio, as well as the first time with an engineer (Phil Manley). All previous recordings, either self-released, for Holy Mountain, or Mexican Summer were done more piecemeal in the band’s rehearsal studio. West was recorded and mixed in six days at Lucky Cat Studios in San Francisco. It was mastered by Sonic Boom at Blanker Unisinn, Brooklyn, with additional mastering by Heba Kadry at the Lodge in New York.

Be sure to check out this mind-numbing (in a good way) quartet when they swing by for an April Fool or two in 2012. Anyone who caught them last time will tell you just how unique and righteous a Shjips Shjow is - that is if theyve found their way out of the haze since then...

... [T]he band have locked it in and sound like they are never gonna stop. A looped cyclical minimal fuzzrock jam that sounds almost like some crazy crossbreeding of the Doors and Spacemen 3, which should appeal to Circle, Salvatore, and Magyar Posse fans as much as all the druggy psychrock dronesters out there. --Aquarius Records
