Cybiont –“angels & demons”
(a review by Papa Toe, Detroit, USA)
The follow up to the debut album, “A Trilogy of Random Thoughts & Considerations” by New Zealand’s, Cybiont, is yet another triumphant celebration of being human in a universe that needs our tender gardening. Though his lyrics beg questions that need to be considered, his music is decidedly optimistic. In his 2nd album, “angels & demons”, there are abundant moments when one can simply enjoy beautiful melodies that float in and out of the larger piece. In others, a clear message is delivered.
Previously a solo endeavor, this album includes guest artist contributions that are excellently engineered into the blend. The cover art work is rich in imagery while additional vocals and instrumentation are pleasantly introduced at appropriately placed intervals. As was his first, this album cannot be digested in one sitting. Several go rounds are needed to fully absorb its broad dimensions.
While Cybiont appears to not be aiming for chart topping irrelevancy, he has taken a step in that direction by constructing songs that are irresistible to both the ear and the heart. Beyond that, there is plenty of cerebral nourishment for those who desire to add intellectual considerations to there musical platter. Like the universe he speaks of, all things are possible and if he’s not careful, a bust out hit is going to appear in the not too distant future.
I have to wonder if as an artist, Cybiont is prepared for the array of consequences of sharing his gifts.
