Vox Capacitor invites you to celebrate the launch of a brand new album The Gift on May 30th at Big Fan.
A one-man jangly dad-rock band, Vox Capacitor bakes sweet sonic cakes, slathering vintage pop melodicism over an alt rock base. The Gift documents the journey of parenting a gravely ill child with the progressive genetic disease cystic fibrosis, moving from joy to resignation to despair, sudden hope and finally… the miracle of The Gift. The full album will be performed live from front to back by Steve McBride (the man behind Vox Capacitor) with longstanding bandmates and collaborators Dean and Katy Mistry and Al Gibson.
Open to all ages, the album launch celebrates Cystic Fibrosis Awareness month (as well as NZ Music Month), and all ticket sales will be donated to Cystic Fibrosis New Zealand.
Vox Capacitor is also joined by special guests to get you going… Starting the night just after 7.30 is Nic Young, who describes himself as “nothing more than a man on a mission to belt out a few choice cover songs” and will be warming up Big Fan with some of your favourite tunes set to acoustic guitar. All he asks in return is that you feel free to lend a hand if he flubs the lyrics.
Next up is Velvet Suns, who hail from the beating heart of 80’s and 90’s indie rock. Ready to rock, pop and shred they could be your new favourite band! Vocalist, guitarist and songwriter Dean Mistry and his band will perform material from the EP Rock’n’Roll Heart, as well as currently unreleased gems.
Finally, Vox Capacitor will take the stage around 8.30, performing a full live rendition of the album, plus special guests and bonus tracks! Come along ready to rock!
