Born and raised in West Auckland, Max has established himself as a young artist emerging in the local scene as drummer and composer alike. Since age eighteen, he has been a student and regular sideman of the pianist Jonathan Crayford and has regularly performed alongside many of the country's top improvisers.
This band is dedicated to Max's folk-inspired compositions and performs music that often reflects a sense of place. Equally joyous as it is often melancholic, and frenzied as it is often meditative, this music draws from a rich catalogue of varied taste - taking cues from modal jazz, ECM, ambient, avant-garde, and alternative singer-songwriter works. The band will play a run of shows in preparation for recording a full-length album in mid-2026.
