Tamaki Makaurau punk rock legends Bleeders celebrate 20 years of As Sweet As Sin by releasing their debut album on vinyl for the first time ever, supported by a nationwide tour.
Bleeders burst onto the scene in 2003 with their debut EP A Bleeding Heart which saw the band cross over from an underground act into a household name. However, it wasn’t until they released their 2006 debut album As Sweet As Sin that the band reached unprecedented heights for a New Zealand punk band.
As Sweet As Sin marked the band’s major label debut through Universal Records, reaching No. 2 on the Aotearoa Music Charts and achieving Gold certification in its first week. Recorded in the USA with producer Sal Villenueva (Thursday, Taking Back Sunday) and with cover art by the legendary Chis Knox, As Sweet As Sin comprised the best songs from the band's career thus far. The album was a finely-tuned assault unit possessing a hard rocking, blood on the floorboards, spit on the walls passion and soul-searing integrity. Despite the crossover success of As Sweet as sin, the band stayed grounded in their roots with a love for the fans that made them. As quoted by “Real Groove” Magazine in 2006, “They lack the sense of exclusivity that confines so many bands to their cliquey pigeonholes… If you buy a Bleeders album or go to a show, you’re in the gang, no further questions.”
“It was a wild time for us. The shows got bigger, the radio & music tv play on stations like C4 and Juice TV was surreal. It felt like a dream for four young kids from West Auckland and the token “shore boy.’” reflects Bleeders vocalist Angelo Munro.
The album saw the Bleeders take home two Tuis at the 2006 New Zealand Music Awards, winning Breakthrough Artist and Best Rock Album. The band would perform multiple sold- out tours both in NZ and performing abroad alongside AFI, Avenged Sevenfold and Gyroscope to name a few.
Twenty years on, the Bleeders are delighted to reissue As Sweet As Sin on Vinyl LP for the first time ever. To celebrate the band are doing what they love the most and hitting the road to support.
