We are hosting this gig to raise funds for a dear friend of mine’s mother, who is dealing with a very rare combination of stage 4 colon cancer with Braf mutation and breast cancer. We will be raising funds to go towards her treatment. Due to the rarity of this mutation, the $150k treatment is not funded by the government. She is a single mumma of three and is unable to work nor receive any government benefits (at the moment).
Thank you to the musicians who are giving up their talents for this cause:
Tui is a four-piece reggae band combining Pacific reggae and dub with introspective song themes tackling affairs within the Pacific. With a good deal of flourishing echoes and heavy drum and bass, Tui carries a meditative momentum that speaks on identity, colonial unrest and tradition. Tui is made up of drummer Harper Tewaru Champion, bassist Becky Devine, guitarist Timothy Le Cheminent-Reid and singer/keyboardist Harry Young aka Kong Kasi.
The Mokos are a collective of self-proclaimed “Urban Māori” emerging from the creative heartbeat of Pōneke. Soundscapes born from a rich blend of indigeneity and urbanism, weaving te reo Māori me ōna tikanga through their music in adventurous new ways. With smooth, R&B and Hip-Hop influences, The Mokos pair phatty basslines - Manaaki Tibble, lush keys - Billy Paratene, tight guitar - Kupa Russell-Hall, stanky percussion - Gala Baumfield, all tastefully tied together with the tender and expressive vocals of Lilly Ellison, forming a distinct identity grounded in Aotearoa.
Bri Louise is a singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist emerging from roots in Gospel and Neo-Soul, and blending effortlessly into Jazz, Hip Hop, and R&B. Bri’s lyrics explore themes of queerness, local frustration, desire, and intimate stories carried by velvet jazz vocals, rich keys, deep basslines, vibrant guitar, fruity woodwinds and warm, wandering grooves. On stage, Bri Louise is joined by Becky Devine (Bass), Theo Thompson (Guitar), Eloise Edmonds (Saxophone), and Jonathan Stolk (Drums) with guest vocalists and horn players selected from the pool of locals jazz talents, creating a live sound charged with talent.
Flatmate (aka yourFlatmate) has a playful curiosity for music, a passion for storytelling and an infectious energy whether that's behind the decks, in the studio or on the dance floor. He builds psychedelic worlds rooted in rhythm and melody; capturing the warmth of the past and exploring the progressive endeavours of the present.
