Beth Elsden invites you to join her in the waiting room to celebrate the release of her debut EP, out at midnight on June 12!
‘The Waiting Room’ is a collection of stories written in her early twenties, and is arriving after five years of quiet development in Dunedin. During this period of time, her songwriting began to explore the moments in life where you have to make the best with what you have, where you acclimatise to loss and find yourself standing on the sidelines of your own life, the “waiting room”. Now 26 years old, this EP almost serves as a time capsule for those feelings, though do they ever really go away? It was a period for blooming and for healing and now, she is more than ready to share her stories with you at Public Bar!
The show will feature a live performance of ‘The Waiting Room’, with the wonderful arielwose and Katie-Lee supporting. She will also be playing unreleased songs written in the waiting room and give you a sneak peek into what is coming next!
Inspired by indie pop artists Lola Young and Chappell Roan as well as Aotearoa very own icons Bic Runga and Anika Moa, arielwose blends nostalgic early-2000s guitar-driven production with a modern indie edge and brutally honest songwriting. Writing from personal experience, her music explores identity, queer relationships and mental health through poetic, raw and beautifully gritty lyricism.
Tāmaki Makaurau based artist, songwriter and producer Katie-Lee (they/them), is a rising force in the Aotearoa music scene. Katie-Lee’s sound is characterized by nostalgic synths, lush harmonies and busy background ambience that softens the blow of raw, vulnerable lyricism. Transforming deep feelings into a form of connection through their music. With an EP release on the horizon, Katie-Lee is excited to share this new era they’ve been crafting over these last few years.
