Tāmaki Makaurau artist MxDicey introduces a bold new sonic identity to the New Zealand music scene with a genre-defying debut inspired by a true crime obsession, and a family-rooted sound.
MxDicey releases their debut single Sinister Vibe on July 25th, marking the arrival of a distinctive new voice in Aotearoa’s independent music landscape. A pioneering fusion of alternative synth- pop, R&B, house, pop, break-beat, and soca, Sinister Vibe serves as the public’s first taste of MxDicey’s expansive production style and genre- fluid creative vision. The Halloween-tinged single draws inspiration from a fascination with true crime podcasts. Adding a deeply personal layer to the production, Sinister Vibe features Trinidadian steel pan performed by MxDicey’s own father, fusing electronic experimentation with heritage- driven instrumentation. Sinister Vibe is a compelling first statement from the writer-producer- performer, carving out a fresh lane in contemporary music, and setting the tone for an exciting artistic trajectory.
To celebrate, MxDicey headlines a special launch party at the iconic Dead Witch, with support from Larsen James, gitanjali, Amelia Kae-Ryder, and Slitopia, fresh from their US tour.
THE SUPPORT ARTISTS:
gitanjali
gitanjali is a musician and visual artist, born in London and based in Tāmaki Makaurau.
She works with experimental, electronic club sounds and collects ideas from her surroundings, her commutes,
and from her obliging friends’ lives.
She likes making music on her laptop on the bus. She sings in autotune, and drifts *physically, sonically* between the
city and knee-deep mud fields. Her latest EP, RABBIT TRAP, is available on Soundcloud and Bandcamp, go and check it out <3.
Amelia Kae-Ryder
Amelia Kae-Ryder is an emerging New Zealand singer-songwriter and artist blending R&B, pop, reggae, hip-hop,
and rap with soulful melodies and honest lyricism. Grounded in real-life experience, she brings raw energy,
rhythmic versatility, and an authentic live presence that connects from the first note.
Amelia delivers emotionally driven yet high-energy live sets, moving between smooth vocals and rhythmic
delivery with ease. Her performances are known for their authenticity, crowd connection, and strong stage presence.
Slitopia
Slitopia Having recently toured in the US, Slitopia are back in the motu ready to rock the electronic underground
with their dynamic bass grooves and ethereal synth lines. With a new ep up their sleeves, the duo now feature live
vocals and keyboard lines amongst other ear candy delights. Expect a cathartic reawakening and a symphonic complex,
if The Orb had a baby with members of Xiu Xiu and The Knife.
Larsen James
Larsen James is a musician based here in Tāmaki Makaurau. You’ll usually catch him playing live, acoustic loop sets filled with
a mix of covers and original tunes. But he also loves to experiment with electronic sounds, and he’s excited to get
experimental with this upcoming set.
Using Ableton as his homebase, and working with pre-made loops and samples, live electric guitar, keys and the
occasional vocal line. Built around catchy house beats, basslines with groove and atmosphere to bring it all together.
Each set he plays, the sound evolves and changes in real-time!
The project leans into texture, movement and emotion over formula.
